Wendy Turnbull has been playing tennis since age five, and became one of the quickest players in the women's game.
Among her many tournament successes are back-to-back Wimbledon mixed doubles titles with Britain's John Lloyd in 1983 and 1984, and a share of the ladies doubles championship in 1978.
In singles, Wendy Turnbull was a finalist at the 1977 US Open, the 1979 French Open and the 1980 Australian Open. She captured nine Grand Slam doubles and mixed doubles championships and 14 Senior Grand Slam doubles titles. Wendy was a member of the Australian Federation Cup Team from 1977 to 1988 and was captain/coach of the team from 1985-1993. She represented Australia in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, winning a bronze medal in doubles. She was honored by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 1984, when she was made a "Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire." Wendy serves on the Olympic Tennis Committee and the Federation Cup Committee for the International Tennis Federation.
