Reggie Rivers
Former Denver Bronco

CBS4 Weekend Sports Anchor Reggie Rivers thought he'd get away from sports when he ended his career as a Denver Broncos Fullback, but sports and journalism are part of who he is.

"After retiring from football, I thought I'd go in a completely different direction," Reggie said. "But, sports has been such an integral part of my life and I always gravitate back to it. I've worked with CBS4 seasonally for the past nine years and now I'm ready to take it to the next level. Covering sports alongside Weekend Anchors Alan Gionet and Kathy Walsh will be an interesting challenge and a lot of fun."

Reggie has been in Denver since 1991 when he joined the Denver Broncos as a rookie free agent. He played for the Broncos through the 1996 season and was named Special Teams Player of the Year in 1993. He is a native of Dayton, Ohio and was born into an Air Force family as the fourth of five children. During his youth, he lived in Ohio, England, Florida and Greece before his family settled in the San Antonio area.

Reggie landed his first job in journalism in 1985 as a senior in high school working for the newspaper San Antonio Light as an obituary writer. In 1986 he enrolled at Southwest Texas State University as a journalism major where he served internships with the Austin American-Statesman newspaper in Texas and Newsday on Long Island. Reggie received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwest Texas State University in journalism and in 1989 was one of 12 students selected nationally to attend the Graduate Enhancement Program in Communications at Ohio University.

After moving to Colorado to try out for the Denver Broncos, Reggie was hired by the Rocky Mountain News to write a weekly sports column. The column was initially scheduled to be a four-week affair during his rookie training camp, but it turned into an eight-year relationship.

Since 1997 Reggie has served as an analyst on CBS4's Broncos Pregame Show Countdown to Kickoff. Between 1993 and 1997, Reggie served as guest-host on several Denver television and radio shows including Broncos Beat and Sports Extra on CBS4 and a weekly radio segment called Rolling with Rivers on NEWSRADIO 850 KOA-AM. From 1997 to 2002, Reggie hosted talk-radio shows on KOA and KHOW. He also wrote a weekly op/ed column for the Denver Post from 2000 through 2006.

In addition to serving as CBS4 Weekend Sports Anchor, Reggie currently writes a column for Pro Football Weekly, hosts the PBS television show Global Agenda on KBDI Channel 12 and is working toward a Masters degree in International Studies at the University of Denver.

Reggie has supported numerous charitable organizations and has received many awards for his efforts. He and his wife Stephanie enjoy being a part of the Denver community.
