An all-pro selection by Sports Illustrated following the 2003 season, Jon is entering his sixth season as the starting right tackle with the Washington Redskins. He has earned the respect of his peers at every level. Jon’s teammates selected him as the Washington Redskins recipient of the 2002 NFL’s "Unsung Hero" Award. As an all-American at the University of Michigan, his teammates selected Jon captain during his junior and senior seasons. His Redskin teammates have chosen Jon team captain the past four seasons.
Off the field, Jon is involved in his community in a meaningful way and has a desire to serve and have a positive influence on those in his community.
An avid sportsman who enjoys hunting and fishing, Jon is a passionate spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries as well as the Department of Conservation and Recreation. He recently completed successful public service announcements on hunting safety for the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. He also is a spokesperson for "Stewardship Virginia" which is a project of the Department of Conservation and Recreation.
Jon is an accomplished speaker at ease in front of large and small groups delivering his ideas to audiences as diverse as young children to business executives.
He is a dynamic motivational speaker providing invaluable advice on teamwork, leadership, goal setting, character, discipline, success and lessons athletics teach. He and his wife, Martha, reside in Purcellville, VA with their dogs Rocket and Roscoe. They also have a home in Petoskey, Michigan where Jon has the opportunity to enjoy his outdoor recreational hobbies of hunting, fishing and boating.
