Dr. Freiberg and her husband, Kevin, are co-authors of NUTS! Southwest Airlines' Crazy Recipe for Business and Personal Success, a USA Today and Business Week national best seller. NUTS! won the San Diego Best Business Book Award, the Benjamin Franklin Award for the Best Business Book of the Year, and was one of five finalists for the Best Current Business Narrative category in Global Business Book Awards presented by Booz-Allen and the Financial Times in New York. NUTS! is an inside look at the unconventional leadership principles and practices behind one of America's truly great success stories. Dr. Freiberg does not work for Southwest Airlines but has had a consulting relationship with the company for over ten years.
Dr. Freiberg is the co-founder of the Family Business Institute at the University of San Diego where she is one of the creative forces behind the development of practical, research-based educational programs for closely-held family businesses. She also worked with MassMutual Life Insurance Company to design the first ever CD-ROM training tool for family businesses and provided expert commentary on the complex business and personal issues family businesses face today.
Before joining the San Diego Consulting Group full-time in 1993, Dr. Freiberg was manager of Corporate and Professional Programs for the University of San Diego. During her tenure at the University, she founded the Certificate in International Business Program and was a director of the Institute for Quality & Productivity. In addition, she taught public speaking as an adjunct professor. She received her bachelor's degree in communication from the University of New Hampshire, masters degree in speech communication from San Diego State University, and she earned a doctorate in educational leadership at the University of San Diego.
Besides juggling the multiple properties of speaking, consulting, and overseeing the daily operations of the firm, she is the Freiberg family anchor. She is the chief choreographer who coordinates the schedules of two very active daughters, Taylor and Aubrey. Within their firm and family, Dr. Freiberg is the chief advocate of the belief that love and life must be thoroughly integrated with making a living.
Dr. Freiberg and Kevin live in San Diego with their two daughters and a golden retriever disguised as a Persian cat named Carlos.
